I'd really like to know how many people immediately clicked off my site when they saw "Feminist" in the title of a baked good. I know. The "f" word is scary; but I'm also very scary so get used to it. Tell me right now that this isn't going to be the best first blog post on a baking blog ever. These cookies aren't even perfect by any means... But I love them. If I learned anything today, it's that I desperately need a rolling pin to either roll out dough, or smash the face of my enemies. Too far? Crap. I'm already scaring my readers within my first post. I swear I'm not awful, I am just too snarky for my own good. Just look at my cookies and ignore my words. It's better this way- I promise. It's fine. It's fine. We'll move onto the recipe, I promise.
Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing (with a Feminist Twist) For the cookies:
- In a bowl, beat together butter, sugar, and egg until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and beat once more. -Combine the dry ingredients with the butter/sugar/egg mixture. Roll dough into three separate balls and chill for two hours. -Preheat oven to 350 degrees. -Roll out dough and cut into shapes. -Bake for 8-10 minutes and let cool completely before frosting. For the royal icing:
-Beat together meringue powder and water. Add the powdered sugar and beat for about 5 minutes, or until stiff peaks are formed. -Frost cookies!
