Eighteen days into 2016 and I'm finally on to my first "links" post of the year. I know. I'm falling behind, but I'm hoping to do better. Tomorrow I'll start working on my roommate Meg's birthday cake and that will definitely be featured on the blog. This post will be a long one since I've recently found a bunch of cool shit. It's a new year. I have a new blog theme. I have a new purpose in life (ok not really on that last part). Let's see what sort of shenanigans I can get into this year, especially now that I can legally consume alcohol. Okay. This is what I'm currently digging... Snoop Dogg narrating wildlife documentary - try telling me you didn't need this in your life. winter squash carbonara - um. yum. sausage and mushroom pasta - i'm REALLY in the mood for pasta. 'Letter from Birmingham Jail' - today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. remember him the way we should. chocolate rosemary muffins - i had no idea this was a thing, but i love it. sprinkle cloud cake - so pretty. i'm still a little sad i didn't get a birthday cake this year. 'Undercover Boss' Kylo Ren - i am Star Wars trash and i feel no shame. potato soup - looks perfect to survive this cold weather with. creamy stovetop mac and cheese - if you don't love mac and cheese you're wrong and i hate you. fudgy bourbon balls - lol balls. smart phone photography - learning lessons since i use my iphone for everything. pan fried dumplings - i have a serious problem with potstickers. i can't wait to try this recipe. salted tahini chocolate chip cookies - leave it to molly yeh to turn something as simple as a chocolate chip cookie into something beautiful and special. Minneapolis' Less Visible, More Troubled Side - no i don't particularly dig this, but i dig that there's coverage of this topic. texas sheet cake - thinking about using this recipe for meg's birthday cake. stout glazed bacon burgers - yes. gnocchi in pork sauce - holy shit balls. baked spaghetti in meat sauce - i would eat the entire pan. potato chip salted champagne caramels - i don't know how this became an idea, but i'm so glad it did. woman feels like she's ready to start receiving unsolicited vulgar messages again - lol the onion Oh yeah. I turned 21 on Friday. Look at me with a big ass boot of beer.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I'm all for simplicity. In the little over a year that I've run this blog, I've not posted anything ridiculously fancy, mostly because I don't have the skills, but also because I value food that is accessible. You're probably never going to see me attempting super fancy pastries or dishes you can get at a fancy restaurant. I love that sort of food too, but I don't think that's the point of my blog. The point of my blog is delicious treats and meals that anyone can make. Seriously.
Speaking of delicious treats, let's talk about brownies. These aren't your made from a box brownies, but they're just as easy and taste WAY better; I promise. They're fudgey but not overwhelmingly so. I ate most of the pan myself, because I've been living in my house mostly alone for the past couple of weeks. Nathan is in Brazil, Brooke is home with her family, and Meg has been back and forth between our house and her parent's house. I've been lonely and made to feel less guilty about my brownie consumption since no one was here to judge me. Brownies
-Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and lightly grease a 9"x13" pan and set aside. -Add ingredients to bowl in order that they're listed, and beat until smooth. -Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting. Seriously. HOW EASY WAS THAT? Do it. I believe in you. |
